Roundglass Hockey Academy continued its dominance in national hockey, completing a hat-trick of titles at the 10th SNBP All India Hockey Tournament (Under 16 Boys) with a tightly fought 3-2 victory over Major Dhyan Chand Sports College, Uttar Pradesh at the Balewadi Mahalunge Sports Complex in Pune.
After a tightly contested, goalless first quarter where both teams tested each other’s defensive structures, the match sparked into life in the second quarter. In the 26th minute, the semi-final hero Sanmukh Singh stepped up once again, expertly converting a penalty corner to give RGHA an early 1-0 lead. However, Major Dhyan Chand Sports College responded instantly, with their captain Sunil Pal firing in a field goal just a minute later to leave the teams deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the halftime break.
In the 41st minute, RGHA captain Abejit Singh led from the front, producing a brilliant field goal to restore his team’s advantage at 2-1. Maintaining their offensive pressure, the Shers earned a crucial penalty stroke in the 52nd minute. Sanmukh Singh slotted the ball home for his second goal of the match, extending the lead to 3-1.
Shivam Yadav converted a penalty corner in the 56th minute for the team from Uttar Pradesh to set up a nerve-wracking final four minutes. However, the RGHA defense stood resolute, neutralizing the late attacks to seal a memorable 3-2 victory and the championship trophy.
The academy squad opened its title defense with a ruthless 8-0 demolition of Vijay Hockey Academy in the group stage, followed by a walkover win against District Level Sports School Gujarat to qualify for the quarterfinals. The side then dismantled Jai Ganesh Academy 5-1 in the quarter-finals before showing their grit in a tight 3-2 victory over SAIL Hockey Academy, Odisha in the semi-finals.
With this victory, Roundglass Hockey Academy continues to establish itself as the premier hub for nurturing and developing the next generation of world-class Indian hockey talent. Winning 40+ titles since its inception, the Academy is considered among the country’s leading hockey academies.
Its work in grassroots hockey development also received recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi during ‘Mann Ki Baat’, where he spoke about the academy’s Technical Lead, Rajinder Singh Sr., and his contribution to nurturing young hockey talent.
