In the bustling town of Batala, Gurdaspur, a young boy once put aside his hockey stick, not because of a lack of talent, but because financial struggles made pursuing the sport nearly impossible. That boy was Gursewak Singh, and today, he stands as one of India’s brightest hockey prospects; proof that determination, resilience, and opportunity can change the course of a life.

Born in December 2006, Gursewak grew up with an instinctive love for hockey. But his family’s financial hardships meant that dreams of playing at higher levels felt out of reach. It wasn’t until he joined the Roundglass Hockey Academy in 2021 that those dreams found a second chance. With world-class facilities, structured coaching, and holistic support, Gursewak was able to reignite his passion and channel his talent into a powerful force on the field.

His breakthrough came quickly. At the 2021 Sub-Junior Men Academy Nationals (Under-17), Gursewak stunned audiences by scoring 11 goals in just 5 matches, announcing himself as a natural finisher and a forward to watch. By 2023, he was not just a rising star but a leader, captaining Roundglass Punjab’s Under-19 side in the Junior Men Academy Championships. His captaincy was marked by excellence — 14 goals and multiple Player of the Match awards — solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and fearless striker.

This consistent brilliance didn’t go unnoticed. In May 2024, Gursewak earned his first call-up to the Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team for the prestigious Europe tour, where he wore India’s colors with pride, a far cry from the boy who once thought his hockey journey was over.

“Roundglass didn’t just give me training; they gave me hope,” Gursewak says. “I got a second chance at hockey, and I’m determined to make the most of it.”

At Roundglass, Gursewak’s success is a reflection of a larger mission: to create pathways for young players across Punjab and India, regardless of their background. By offering cutting-edge coaching, fitness programs, mental conditioning, and education, the Academy is building not just athletes, but confident young leaders ready to represent the country.

As Gursewak continues to sharpen his skills for future international tournaments, his journey stands as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring athletes everywhere: talent may be born in small towns, but with opportunity and perseverance, it can shine on the world stage.
