Not long ago, Muhammad Suhail was just another young footballer chasing a dream far from home. Today, he stands as one of the most exciting success stories to emerge from our academy, a testament to the power of structured youth development.
Suhail first caught national attention during the 2023–24 Reliance Foundation Development League, where our young Shers were crowned champions after a thrilling 3–2 win over East Bengal in the final. At just 17, Suhail was awarded the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, marking his arrival as a standout talent in Indian youth football.
Leaving Home at 13 for a Dream
Hailing from Olavakkode in Kerala’s Palakkad district, Suhail took a bold step early in his journey. At just 13, he left home to join the academy after being spotted in trials in Coimbatore.
The move meant stepping into an unfamiliar environment, far from family and comfort. He had not even represented his district before, making the transition even more daunting.
Finding Strength in Struggle
The early days were far from easy.
Adjusting to a new culture, language, and professional setup tested the young footballer. With no familiar faces around, Suhail often struggled to cope. What kept him going was the unwavering support of his family, especially his elder brother, who encouraged him to stay and fight through the challenges.
That resilience became the foundation of his growth.
A Defining Transformation
One of the turning points in Suhail’s development came within the academy itself.
Initially playing as a centre back, he was repositioned as a forward at the Under 17 level. The switch proved decisive. It unlocked his natural attacking instincts, allowing him to express himself with pace, dribbling, and creativity in the final third.
It was here that Suhail truly began to understand his game.
Learning Through Exposure
Opportunities like the Premier League Next Generation Cup in England further shaped his development, exposing him to higher levels of competition and professionalism.
Every experience added to his growth, helping him evolve not just physically, but mentally as well. Over time, he developed clarity in his role and a deeper understanding of what it takes to perform consistently at a higher level.
More Than Just One Player
Suhail’s journey reflects the larger vision of our academy, a system built on identifying, nurturing, and developing young talent from across the country.
From grassroots scouting to structured training and competitive exposure, the pathway is designed to create not just footballers, but resilient individuals ready for the demands of the sport.
Eyes on the Future
For Suhail, the journey is still unfolding.
From playing on mud grounds in a railway colony in Palakkad to earning national recognition, his story is one of belief, sacrifice, and perseverance. And while he continues to focus on improving his game, his rise already stands as an inspiration for countless young footballers across India.
A reminder that with the right ecosystem, talent can find its path.
